Formal description:
Hand made bonsai pot from the Yamaaki Kiln, oval with integrated feet, yellow glaze, seal and signature of Toshio, 3rd gen. of Yamaaki kiln underneath.
External dimensions:
346 x 278 x 53mm (13⅜ x 10⅞ x 2 in)
Internal dimensions:
314 x 248 x 39mm (12⅜ x 9¾ x 1½ in)
Informal information:
One of the great things about yellow pots is the way they show patina so well. In this example, it's quite extreme, even starting to break up along the bottom edge, and I wouldn't change it one bit. The clay showing on the feet is also a nice touch, it's clearly Toshio's clay and reduction firing, a super pot.
Condition: Used, patina, excellent.
Yamaaki. The kiln was started by Katakoka Akitsuga and fired by three generations of potters, until it finally went 'cold' in 2011. It was the most productive bonsai pot kiln in Tokoname, fired with gas which gives those fantastic clay colours mimicking the pots of ancient China..
