Formal Description:

Handmade bonsai pot from the Yamaaki Kiln, 3rd Gen. Toshio. slanted rectangle, slight internal rim, integrated feet, seal and nail signature of Yamaaki 3rd gen underneath.

External dimensions:

272 x 214 x 85mm (10¾ x 8½ x 3⅜ in)

Internal dimensions:
236 x 181 x 67mm (9¼ x 7⅛ x 2⅝ in)

Informal Information:

This pot has some water marks as shown in the last two photos, but with a little oil, it comes up well as you can see.

A simple, strong rectangle which won't distract from the tree, but with some very nice patina it will add a sense of age to the image. Great pot.

Condition: Used, some water marks, otherwise excellent.

Yamaaki, 3rd Generation Potter Kataoaka Toshio. The kiln was started by Katakoka Akitsuga and fired by three generations of potters, until it finally went 'cold' in 2011. It was the most productive bonsai pot kiln in Tokoname, fired with gas which gives those fantastic clay colours mimicking the pots of ancient China. Toshio does seem to prefer a purplish hue much like Akitsuga. There are a lot of production Yamaaki pots available, those with nail carved signatures were hand made by the Kataoka family, and consequently more valuable.
