Informal information:

This pot is a miniature technical masterclass. Construction is as thin as possible, and then to show just how good he really is, Machinao glazes the underneath, as he often does. It is brilliant that this pot didn't deformed during firing, or cracked upon cooling. It is no wonder he was revered and sought out by so many as a teacher in his lifetime.

This pot would ideally serve as an accent, and would be a great accompaniment to a display that also had a pot from one of his many students. Also a great pot for potters to ruminate over!

Condition: unused, excellent.

Imaoka Machinao, born 1925 in Tokyo. Worked as a teacher, in 1964 he opened a kiln. He taught pottery and even produced a book and mini-kiln kit, many amateur potters started this way. He was also a prodigious bonsai-ist, and grew many species.
He worked with many traditional glazes, and popularised crawl glazes, these pots can be hard to acquire! His pots can seem innocuous, but when I see one I ask myself, "What's the lesson here?" and find a new appreciation.
