Formal description:

Chinese shohin bonsai pot from Tetsugakkan. Rectangle with external rim with lip, incised corners, cloud feet, seal of Tetsugakkan underneath.

External dimensions:
154 x 105 x 54mm (6⅛ x 4⅛ x 2⅛ in)

Internal dimensions:
133 x 84 x 35mm (5¼ x 3¼ x 1⅜ in)

Informal information:

Mould made and hand finished in purple mud clay with some grog added. The clay, design and chop are all a match for shohin Tetsu-gakkan rectangles. Pots of Nakawatari age usually have more patina than this, but I've seen Kowatari pots (pre 1800) at Kokufu-ten with no patina at all, so I would just take the age with a pinch of salt. A great unglazed shohin pot, the design of which would inspire Shoko-do to make Japanese shohin pots.

Condition: Used, excellent.

Tetsugakkan, a Chinese kiln or company that employed a number of potters making pots to their specification. Pots are classed as Nakawatari era which spanned 1800-1911.
