Informal information:
A simple white pot, from the base it looks thrown, but inside it looks hand pressed, and the outside has a diagonal twisting pattern under the glaze. So it seems simple, but the more you look, the more there is going on. Takao Koyo is perhaps best known currently for superb painted pots, but this is a sweet little accent.
Takao Koyo, real name Kenji Shiogai bor 1947, Kyoto. Started making pots in 1972 at the age of 25, and still going today! His early work included unglazed ware, but even then he was interested in and primarily making glazes, and was a huge afficionado of Tofukuji and Wakamatsu Aiso, both Kyoto legends. Latterly he has become very popular for his painted pots which are excellent, and many feature surrounds of his glazes. Prices are for these works are now getting high as his reknown spreads internationally.
