Informal information:

This is a 'Taiko' drum shaped pot from Jyuedo Shosen, very nicely made with a dark slip that was often used over the red clay, and then decorated with careful splashes of red glaze.
The rustic method of manufacture does a great job of evoking "Old Japan", Shosen was an expert in channeling the old techniques of making that he will have been familiar with to this effect.
This style of pot is very popular for conifers in an informal, slant, literati or bunjin style, and will create a superb image when used as such.
In the first photo, the pot has been oiled to show the pot at it's best.
Condition: Used, excellent, some calcium deposits but these disappear with a little oil.

"Katakoka Akitsuga", known by his potter name,  "Jyuedo Shousen" started the legendary Yamaaki kiln, thus his pots are known as 1st generation Yamaaki. The kiln was fired by three generations of potters, until it finally went 'cold' in 2011. Jyuedo Shousen passed away in 1990, this pot is probably between 34 and 60 years old.
