Informal information:

A mame / accent pot by 2nd generation Shouami potter Takano Shinjiro. The whimsical dragons are one of their signature designs, it's almost impossible not to smile when you see their funny upturned faces. The pot also has some patina adding to the overall aesthetic - that juxtaposition of whimsy and age creates a really interesting dynamic.
Please see the photos with the rulers, this pot is very small!

Condition: Used, patina, excellent.

Heian Shoami - Two generations of potters. The first, Koichi Takano 1905-1993, taught by Nyoami Shibata, and opened his kiln in Takano, Kyoto. He primarily made tea ceremony wares, but made bonsai pots for connoiseurs between 1940-60, there are very few of them. His kiln was a shared wood fired Anagama. He taught his son, Takano Shinjiro (2nd Generation), who carried on the business, again making bonsai pots to order only. He fires in a gas kiln. Their wares are very similar, and include sometsuke, gosai painted, kyo-yaki, subjects often children, dragons, flowers, landscape.
