Informal information:

A Chinese Shohin bonsai pot from an unknown maker, the Kanji on the bottom read 'Vermillion, Great'. Yixing is the home of fine vermillion clay, so I would presume it's from there.

Useful size and depth for Shohin, great patina from long use, superb colour for Juniper or other Conifer. This has been carefully handmade, there's a nice bevel at the bottom edge and on the rim and making marks which can be seen inside and from how the feet have been applied. I would judge it to be early 20th Century, pre-cultural revolution.

With many Chinese pots, I am cautious about letting them freeze when wet. If I have a tree in a Chinese pot, I keep it under cover through winter, that is, a greenhouse or polytunnel if coniferous, garage or shed if deciduous. The clay is porous, which is reputed to be good for tree health, but there is a risk of spalling which would ruin the pot. They  are perfectly fine with the right care. For this reason. I will not  accept returns of this pot.
