Formal Description:

Japanese bonsai pot by Juraku. Rectangle with external rim, incised corners, cloud feet, red cinnabar glaze, seal of Juraku underneath.

External dimensions:
260 x 190 x 93mm (10¼ x 7½ x 3⅝ in)

Internal dimensions:
216 x 146 x 75mm (8½ x 5¾ x 3in)

Informal information:

The two stand out features of this pot are glaze and patina. The glaze is a gorgeous reduction-fired copper red, often called 'Cinnabar', which breaks to white on the corners where thinner. This glaze is normally very shiny, but the years have been kind to this pot, it has a great patina that creates a satin finish when oiled. You might see a couple of clean spots breaking through in places.

The pot itself is slip cast porcelain, so not premium manufacturing, but the glaze with patina elevate it to a higher level. I'm not sure of the age of this pot, but I would guess at least 50 years given the patina, and possibly quite a bit more.

Condition: Used, patina, excellent.

Juraku, I don't have much information on this potter. The Juraku chop is sometimes seen on Tosui pots, so there's some association there but I don't know the details of the relationship.
