Formal description:
Handmade by Fusyu aka Tomifune of Tokoname. Unglazed round shohin pot with patterned external rim, lower band, cut feet and nail signature of Fusyu underneath.
External dimensions:
106 x 41mm (4¼ x 1⅝ in)
Internal dimensions:
93 x 29mm (3¾ x 1⅛ in)
Informal information:
A fine and detailed shohin pot from Tomifune. As is typical, the work balances delicate and attentive making in it's thinness, detail in it's ornamental band and foot ring design, and a relaxed application of faux patina that looks very natural.
Condition: Excellent.
Fusyu / Tomifune - Ms. Watanabe, highly celebrated as a potter, also wife to Mr. Watanabe Masami (Shouzan) and mother of Mr. Watanabe Kazuhiro (Ikko).
Once you become familiar with her work, it is immediately identifiable, often with fine rivets and bands, and a dark faux patina over the Shudei red clay. The making is fine and has a craft appearance, careful, organic but not fussy. I believe all of her work is hand made and hand signed. I think this focus in her body of work gives it a lot of credibility. Her hand made works are sure to be collectibles of the future.
