Informal information:
Excellent hand formed pot and yet a very refined thinness throughout. The layered glaze will make a lively composition, ideally a flowering tree to compliment or contrast with.

Echizen Bunzan, real name Kaoru Ito, born 1949, from Echizen in Fukui Prefecture. Started making pots in 1973 and is now retired. His pots are hand formed, usually glazed, some painted works, from small to medium size. Glazes are often crackling in nature, and also layered, splashed and painted. His work is full of charm, suggestive of Spring and Summer, and pair particularly well with fruiting and flowering trees as well as accents.
Echizen is one of the six famous ancient kilns of Japan, Echizen ware is made from local clays, is traditionally unglazed or has ash based glazes applied. Bunzans works use local clay, and although glazed, glazes appear ash based and have similar traditional application methods, resulting in a modern interpretation of Echizen ware for Bonsai.
