Formal description:

Hand made shohin Japanese bonsai pot by Shibakatsu of Tokoname, rectangle with slight internal lip, moulded feet, ice crackle glaze, seal of Shibakatsu underneath.

External dimensions:
151 x 117 x 46mm (6¼ x 4⅝ x 1¾ in)

Internal dimensions:
140 x 102 x 36mm (5½ x 4 x 1⅜ in)

Informal information:

Excellent glaze on this rectangle by Shibakatsu, the crackle follows a unique pattern and has been only part dyed, possibly as the pot came out of the kiln and then delayed cracking has continued. The effect is very good.

There is a small chip to one foot which I think stuck during firing, as the same dye used on the cracks is on the clay there.

Condition: unused, excellent, firing chip to one foot.

Shibakatsu, Mr Katsuichi Shibata of Tokoname has been making pots for over 40 years, I believe his pots are mostly mould made. He places an emphasis on the pot being good for growing, and aesthetic after, and has a good reputation because of this. On the Tokoname website there is a great quote:
"Every time I open the kiln, and the results are as expected, I am surprised".
What a wonderful reminder that potters are wise to be humble before the fire God.
