Informal information:
Delicately thrown, thin walled porcelain from Shunzan. The celadon glaze is extremely well done, thinning at the rim, welling up near the base, but it also has the very desirable "Mutton Fat" quality, which is a kind of jade-like optical depth with a sheen like fat. You can get an idea of this in the pictures of the pot upside down, but it's best appreciated in person, in good daylight.
All of this is well accompanied by a nice patina - quite a lot going on for a simple little thrown pot.
Banko Shunzan, real name Motozo Sasaoka, born 1936 in Mie Prefecture. He made pottery for over 50 years, starting with an electric kiln and then added gas and oil kilns. Banko, where Shunzan was from is famous for Banko ware (Yokkaichi, Mie Pref), which is a terracotta / stoneware clay. Shunzan used Yokkaichi clay but also added clays from all over the world - however I've only seen porcelain works so far.
He was a great student of ancient Chinese glazes, his Celadon, Cinnabar, Tenmoku and Jun glazes (all reduction glazes, hence gas kiln) which are particularly excellent and sought after.
