Informal information:

Typical excellent quality pot from Yamaaki, the glaze has depth to it's colour and a satin sheen from years of patina. This is best shown with a light application of oil. The gap in the bag shaped rim has no patina, and is brighter as a result.
Upon close examination there is a glaze crack on the rim, I can assure you this is just the glaze and is not in the body of the pot. Please see the pictures. Glazes can crackle immediately on pulling from the kiln or years later, depending on the chemistry and is nothing to be concerned about here.

Condition: Used, patina, excellent.

Yamaaki, 3rd Generation Potter Kataoaka Toshio. The kiln was started by Katakoka Akitsuga and fired by three generations of potters, until it finally went 'cold' in 2011. It was the most productive bonsai pot kiln in Tokoname, fired with gas which gives those fantastic clay colours mimicking the pots of ancient China. Toshio does seem to prefer a purplish hue much like Akitsuga. There are a lot of production Yamaaki pots available, those with nail carved signatures were hand made by the Kataoka family, and consequently more valuable.
