Formal description:
Informal information:
Superb copper red glaze over carved / stamped double dragon design. Jukou is producing some really great, unique shohin pots with a lot of technical mastery.
There's a lot going on here, the incised corners, stepped feet on a rail. The proportions are also very well considered - plenty of depth, a very stable base, the dragons slightly asymmetric, and feet stepping over the bottom edge all create an excellent image. Fantastic pot.
Condition: Unused, excellent.
Jukou Koyo, Mr. Aiba Kuniaki, born 1973, Tokoname, 4th generation potter, son of the super famous Aiba Koyo. He learnt under his father, and I've had a few pots with the Koyo seal and Jukous signature, but as well as carrying on the family kiln, he has gone his own way too. He seems to be specialising in small numbers of one off or low-run shohin pots with a large variety of glazes, so quite different to his dads work, also popular and collectible.
