Informal information:

Shohin rectangle by Heian Kinokawa, exceptionally well detailed and finished.

Kinokawa was a student of Ichinkura Sekishu, a very famous maker of handmade pots. Barely known in the West, Kinokawa inherited his masters attention to details and fine making, but I think his finish is significantly more refined. Perhaps his body of work exhibits less range, but there is so little around it's hard to know!

The feet are very typical of Kinokawas unglazed works, the long sleek shape with every edge flattened off is a unique signature to him. These pieces are in the same class as Ryuen, Wajaku and Sekishu, absolutely first rate shohin pieces.

Condition: Used, excellent.

Heian Kinokawa - born 1951, real name Takayuki Nishihara, Wakayama pref. Making since 1969, ceased by 2006. Teacher Sekishu Ichinokura, also guidance from Fushoan and Shigeharu Matsuura. Early work focussed on glazed, latterly unglazed, but there are also painted works. His work is highly refined and only a few examples mean they are popular and hard to find.
