Informal Information:
Takao Koyo is famous for his painted and glazed pots, here's an example showing his competence with unglazed works. The charm of a piece like this is the sense of connection and closeness to the artist when you hold it. He's used his fingertip to create a regular 'beaten' pattern; but look how thoughtfully it's been done - the sides blend into a familiar pattern of rope work on the rim, seamlessly.
On a final note, an unglazed pot from Takao Koyo is uncommon enough, but signed as well, I think really quite rare, and from his early period.
Condition: Used, some light patina, Excellent.
Takao Koyo, born 1947, Kyoto. Enjoys bonsai, and started making bonsai pots in 1972, with the desire to plant a tree in his own container as many hobby potters do. By 1974 he started his own kiln and was making in earnest. Inspiration included Tofukuji and Wakamatsu Aiso. In his early years he practiced pear skin clay (unglazed) and glazes. Latterly he learnt to paint and inspired by Yusen (who he collaborated with) gradually improved his skill. In 2014 he achieved the Gold Award at Gafu-Ten for painted pots.
