Informal information:

A huge oval in a dark blue glaze with a twist, ideal for a forest planting. Delicate white flecks add interest without being distracting. This is not a namako glaze, it's something different that I haven't seen before, and is very suggestive of snow on a winters night. A great pot from Mazan.

I can imagine it suiting trees with a reddish colour to the bark, for example, any of the cypress family i.e. Hinoki, Cryptomeria, Redwood, Stewartia, or perhaps something with red flowers or fruit. Lots of possibilities for creativity in this huge 2ft pot.

There are some superficial scratches on this pot, I don't think they're particularly distracting. Please see the photos, they are representative of how it appears in person.

Condition: Used, some scratches, excellent.

Mazan, Mr. Shinzan Terahata, born 1945, he established his kiln in Seto. His early pots were mould made, but around 1985 he bored of this and started making all hand made pots. His clay is a unique blend of Seto, Tokoname and Chinese clays, which is high-fired. Many glazes are ash based - Seto has a long tradition of pottery and a number of famous glazes. He typically signs and seals all of his handmade pots.
