Formal description:

Hand thrown pot by Kutani Nishiki. Slight everted rim, cut feet, glazed and painted in Sometsuke style, painted signature of Kutani Nishiki underneath.

External dimensions:
94 x 45mm

Internal dimensions:
76 x 35mm

SKU: 25002

Informal information:

A charming and easy to use pot. Either the donkey has huge ears or some decorative covering over them, I haven't found any resource that refers to such huge ears. Regardless, the painting is well done and the landscapes are serene. Some iron in the clay has added interest as dark flecks on the surface.

Condition: Possibly unused, excellent.

Kutani Nishiki, real name Hondo Junichi, born 1933, Ishikawa prefecture. A kutani painter who is also passionate about bonsai, his ambition was to express traditional Kutani paintings with a depth of feeling. Experimented with clays and paints, from stoneware to porcelain, aka-e sometsuke and gosai of traditional Kuntani colours. Possibly inactive since 2004.
