Informal information:

An intense Ruri blue glaze on this Suiban, evoking a sense of deep, cool waters. This piece was commissioned by Kyuka-en nursery (their seal is underneath, the individual one), I don't know which generation of owner though. The pot was made by a Shigaraki kiln I'm not familiar with, Shigaraki is more often associated with unglazed wares.
Kyuka-en opened in 1929 and was the nursery of Kyuzo Murata who was instrumental in the development of bonsai in Japan, the nursery housed trees of the Imperial Family and Prime Ministers. Kyuzo Murata developed tools with premium manufacturer Masakuni, and ceramics with their seal are also of the highest order.

This is a great Suiban for medium sized Suiseki, Bonsai and Ikebana that have a water association, or where you want to suggest water.

Condition: Used, a small chip has been filled (see pics), otherwise excellent.
