Week 1 at the famous Kokufu-ten exhibition, 100th edition!
The kokufu is famous for serious trees and pots, and thats certainly the case seeing it firsthand. Of the unglazed pots, perhaps 60% are antique Chinese, a huge 30% Gyouzan and 10% other.
But amongst all the high-end pots are some that can be bought at more realistic prices, which are shown in this post.

The standard of trees in these pots is equally as high as the others in the exhibition, and the tree / pot matchups here were also extremely good.
I think this shows that above a certain minimum standard of bon-ware you can achieve results good enough for the most prestigious of shows, and it will depend on your sensitivity as a bonsai artist to the pairing of tree and pot as to how good a composition results from that.
