Informal information:
Sometimes these pots with a few decades of patina are stunningly photogenic. This is an early Shuho pot featuring one of his most successful glazes that mimics antique oxidised bronze or copper. Normally cloud feet soften an image, but here the feet are prominent, the shape and features are masculine and the overall effect is one of antiquity and authority.
With that in mind, it would suit a tree with either a powerful trunk or a graceful one with good refinement, so quite versatile.
Condition - used, slight wobble 1-2mm, otherwise excellent, patina.
Shuuho is a prolific 5th generation potter, carrying on his fathers kiln that opened in 1923. Much loved and revered in Japan, he continues to innovate, especially with glazes. There are some great video interviews on the Bonsai Empire and BonsaiQ channels to check out this living legend of a potter.
