Formal description:
Informal information:
Yoshimura Shuho pot featuring one of his most successful glazes that mimics antique oxidised bronze or copper. The tall oval is both practical for some species, but also gives the glaze a chance to show how much it can vary over a form.
There are a few spots where the glaze has 'crawled' i.e. pulled back leaving bare spots during the firing, but this is quite common on Shuho's early pots, and does nothing to diminish the image from either side.
Condition - used, slight wobble 1-2mm, otherwise excellent, patina.
Shuuho is a prolific 5th generation potter, carrying on his fathers kiln that opened in 1923. Much loved and revered in Japan, he continues to innovate, especially with glazes. There are some great video interviews on the Bonsai Empire and BonsaiQ channels to check out this living legend of a potter.
