Formal description:
Japanese bonsai pot from the Tosui kiln. Mokko shape with external rim, moulded feet, Namako glaze over, seal of Tosui kiln underneath.
External dimensions:

Internal dimensions:
220 x 165 x 54mm (8⅝ x 6½ x 2 in)
Informal information:
A fine Tosui pot with plenty going on! The shape is an oval mokko called "Sword Mokko", a reference to "Tachi-mokkō-gata", literally "Tachi cross shape", and it was used on the guard (Tsuba) of large swords worn by cavalry.
What sets this pot apart is the quality of the glazing - the Namako is a matt variant (And I would love to know the recipe!) which flows and accumulates near the bottom edge, on one side a drip frozen forever, sublime.
Tosui pots span everything from mass produced items to the finest pieces available, this is a premium production pot.
Condition: Used, excellent.
Tosui, Mizuno Masao, 1904-75, from Seto. The Tosui line of potter is quite long and confusing, but this is Masao. He made the pots that were designed by Uematsu Chotaro. After Chotaro's death in 1959 he took over the name of Tosui, and from the age of 60 took on the name Ryokojuan.
