Formal description:
Artisan bonsai pot from the Kisen Ikkodou kiln. Oval with internal rim, integrated feet, seal of Kisen underneath.

Informal information:
Large, simple and serene oval, ideal for a forest planting. The clean, modern design keeps the focus on the trees, and supports them with a calm image. Great clay, a little patina adds variation to the shadows.
Condition: Used, excellent.
Kisen Ikkodou, (Mr Koie Kiyokazu, born 1932) Tokoname. In 1955 he changed business from making clay pipes to bonsai pots. Initial work was mass production, shifting to higher quality hand made works later. Selling worldwide by 1972. Mostly made by pressing into moulds and hand finishing, firing was done in both gas and electric kilns, with richer colours from gas fired works. Works signed 'Ikkodo' are made with a blend of Chinese and Tokoname clays, these are his premium works.
