Informal information:

Superb, elegant cascade by Hokido. Rarely available. Hokido sought to emulate the best of the Chinese pots, and here it's great to be able to see that translated into a cascade pot. Thin rim, incised corners that flow seamlessly into the feet, just fantastic work. This pot has the benefit of some natural patina too, most evident on the rim.

A word about condition. There is a thin crack halfway across rim in one corner, please see the pictures. This is a drying crack from when it was made, (note the patina in the crack!) if it was an in-use crack it would have gone all the way across the rim. This crack has been sealed, and I will give a money back guarantee if it develops any further.

Condition: Used, kiln crack on rim, silvering mark from a tool or wire on one side, otherwise excellent.

Hokido, of Tokoname, real name Naoyuki Maenami, born in 1942, and started the Hokido kiln in 1976. The kiln was only active for 15 years before closing and although productive, many pots are hard to get hold of.
When his pots first came out, they caused a stir - people were impressed by the burnished finish of his red clay, as well as the dark shading that mimicked ancient patina - the pots had the look of valuable Chinese antiques. Nowadays many pots have real patina too, adding to the look.
Hokido pots are relatively expensive, perhaps because of the quality, perhaps because he was only active for a relatively short time. They aren't easy to come by and so command higher prices. I expect this will only increase.
