Informal information:
Kyo-yaki is a slip trailed decoration technique, also used by famous potters such as Wakamatsu Aiso and Eiraku Zengoro. Here employed by 2nd generation potter Takano Shouami, the colour combination is striking and impressive and will allow a creative pairing with the right tree, also a great depth that could be used for a semi-cascade style.
Condition: Unused, excellent.
Heian Shoami - Two generations of potters. The first, Koichi Takano 1905-1993, taught by Nyoami Shibata, and opened his kiln in Takano, Kyoto. He primarily made tea ceremony wares, but made bonsai pots for connoiseurs between 1940-60, there are very few of them. His kiln was a shared wood fired Anagama. He taught his son, Takano Shinjiro (2nd Generation), who carried on the business, again making bonsai pots to order only. He fires in a gas kiln. Their wares are very similar, and include sometsuke, gosai painted, kyo-yaki, subjects often children, dragons, flowers, landscape.
