Informal information:

Kosens version of the Oribe green glaze. Of course, it would not be Kosen without some kiln change effects, he loved them so! Green changes to red on the rim and underside, and not to be without further interest, there are some blue halo effects where the glaze is thickest. This is where two glass types mix - silica and phosphorus based. The latter comes from plant ash, a traditional ingredient in this glaze.

It's hard to recommend a better first Japanese shohin pot than a Kosen. Excellent build quality, fascinating glazes, a true artist potter.

Condition: Used, excellent.

Heian Kosen, born 1933, inspired by Tofukuji he was making pots by 1955. He was a devotee of wood fired kilns, and always tried to fire in one, even as smoke regulations outlawed them in many areas. He perfected the pear skin clay effect beloved of Tofukuji, and made many excellent glazed pots, many feature yohen or kiln change effects. He's a great value potter for works similar to those of Tofukuji.
