Formal description:
Hand made Japanese bonsai pot by Heian Kosen from Kyoto. Oval with external rim, middle band, cut feet, green / Jun glaze over, seal of Kosen underneath.
External dimensions:

Informal information:
A typical Kosen glaze featuring 'Yohen' or kiln change effects. The 'Jun' glaze is a remarkable and ancient one from around 12th century China. The colour comes from Copper, with various states preserved in a nano-particle sized matrix of bubbles that refract light.
Kosen used this glaze a lot and played with the parameters to great effect. This pot could stand a little more cleaning, but as it's an early Kosen pot (His signature fabric pattern underneath is missing here) it seems right to preserve the patina as it is.
Condition: Used, excellent.
Heian Kosen, born 1933, inspired by Tofukuji he was making pots by 1955. He was a devotee of wood fired kilns, and always tried to fire in one, even as smoke regulations outlawed them in many areas. He perfected the pear skin clay effect beloved of Tofukuji, and made many excellent glazed pots, many feature yohen or kiln change effects. He's a great value potter for works similar to those of Tofukuji.
