Formal Description:
Artisan pot by Nakano Gyouzan (Tokoname). Rectangle with external rim with lip, incised corners, lower band, moulded feet, basal band including around feet, signature of Gyouzan underneath.

Informal Information:
From his production pot days (i.e, mould made), comes this superb rectangle. I picked this up for a few reasons, but mainly it was the clay colour - Gyouzan experimented widely with clay, and this is almost the spitting image of antique Yixing clay seen on so many Kokufu show pots.
It does have a slight wobble, so please bear that in mind, common with pots but bears mentioning. Also a small making defect in the foot. Again, it's been like this since it was made, has lasted well enough and is out of sight.
Great value from one of the very best.
Condition: Used, patina, 2mm wobble, excellent.
Nakano Gyouzan, Tokoname, is renowned for his glazed and particularly unglazed pots. His pots have featured at almost every Kokufu-Ten for more than 30 years. He is a potter from Tokoname, you can find videos of him making pots on Youtube. Mould made pots are excellent, hand made works are masterpieces. He makes some absolutely huge pots, and latterly he has explored new ideas of pots and stands combined. An artist never at rest.
