External dimensions:

Internal dimensions:
212 x 70mm (8¼ x 2¾ in)
Informal information:
A fine old Koyo oval with lots of character. This is an early green crystal glaze, where you can see gold and silver crystals with black halos against the opaque turquoise green background. Koyo's green crystal glaze evolved over time, but this is a really great example of the older recipe. This pot, to my eye has a very definite front with a nice crystal 'drip' to the right.
There's a black slip on the unglazed surfaces, an effect used in the early days of the Koyo kiln. This pot is probably from around the 1980's, 30-50 years old. The seal is indistinct but this is classic Koyo, guaranteed.
Condition: Used, excellent.
Koyo, Mr. Aiba Kouichirou, born 1944, from a familiy of potters. He founded the Koyo kiln in the 1970's, his work always very popular. Perhaps his most famous glaze is the green crystal oribe, which changed over time and really gained it's own identity apart from the famous ones of Tofukuji and Ino Shukuho. His pots are reliable as well as great to look at.
