Formal description:
Artisan made bonsai pot from the Yamaaki Kiln, 3rd Gen. Toshio. Oval shape with external rim in red clay, double lower bands, with green Namako glaze over, cut feet, seal of Yamaaki and hand signed by Toshio underneath.

Informal information:
Huge and impressive, and yet still understated, this is quite the pot from Yamaaki. The glaze is a flowing one like Namako, but has a green tint. Both the large rim and greater depth give plenty of room to show off the patterns this glaze makes. What else is there to say!
Please note there is a small chip on this inside of the rim.
Condition: Used, small chip to inside rim (see last pic), excellent.
Yamaaki, 3rd Generation Potter Kataoaka Toshio. The kiln was started by Katakoka Akitsuga and fired by three generations of potters, until it finally went 'cold' in 2011. It was the most productive bonsai pot kiln in Tokoname, fired with gas which gives those fantastic clay colours mimicking the pots of ancient China. Toshio does seem to prefer a purplish hue much like Akitsuga. There are a lot of production Yamaaki pots available, those with nail carved signatures were hand made by the Kataoka family, and consequently more valuable.
