Informal information:
A very pleasing form to this nanban style pot from Matsushita of the Reihou kiln. The clay is typical, and the reduction firing has brought a nice blotchiness to the iron content. The shape is ideal for an informal or semi-cascade style, and also provides some useful depth. The dynamic rim allows a variety of 'fronts' to suit the nature of your tree. You can find examples of his pots online, I try to pick up the ones with the most interesting shapes and firing results.
Condition: unused, excellent.
Matsushita, Hiroyuki Matsushita, born 1960, 4th generation potter of the Tokoname Matsushita pottery, his father is Reiho. His work is a departure from ancient Chinese styles, but is based on research of old Tokoname clay, firing and making methods. He started as an avant-garde potter, but came back to bonsai pots, his work is both recognisably his and popular.
