Informal information:
A fine, older piece from Reiho. The form and glaze work hand in hand, the glaze is very dark but the lobed design means it catches highlights and the detail becomes apparent. This example has significant patina but with a light application of oil it creates a soft velvety character that only comes with old pots.
Unlike some Reiho pots, you can really feel the influence of Seizan in the thin well crafted work. It is of course also very stable.
Ideal for a semi cascade flowering tree, dark blue compliments dark, grey and reddish bark as well as any flower colour you can imagine. Bring on Spring!
Condition: Used, excellent, patina.
Reihou - Kataoka Katsushi, son of Kataoka Makoto who founded the famous Tokoname kiln Seizan in 1889. The kiln is run by Reihou now. His father pursued unglazed work and created some inspired pieces, Reihou is more modern, his glazed work is ambitious but usually seems to maintain a little reserve, allowing the tree to take centre stage.
